Presentation of the project – Thematical discussions and presentations

  1. Summary of the general theme and its three thematic axes, duration and timeline of the project, cooperation with other disciplines.
  2. Discussion of the annual program 2017:

1st Workshop (June 2017): “Representations of the Prophet in Religious Discourse: Hadith, Sira and Law; Theology and Theosophy” in Paris (5.-6.07.17). Its purposes and topics (presenting sources, fieldwork and methodology and debating issues and questions that will need further investigation).

2nd Workshop (October 2017): “The figure of the prophet in Poetry and Literature, Calligraphy and Visual Arts, Visual Media” in Bochum in October.

14.30 – 17.30 Afternoon session: Round-table discussion

As the aim of the inaugural conference is for both German and French teams to get to know each other we suggest a round-table discussion to allow the participants to introduce him/herself and present their individual research contributions and expectations. This will help to identify common grounds and aims in our new approach to understanding Muhammad in the eyes of his devotees.
